Who I Am
I’m Luke Schnur, an IT student at the University of Cincinnati finishing my degree in Information Technology with a concentration in Cybersecurity and Networking. I currently work at CareStar as an IT Support Co‑op, where I handle help desk tickets, device management, onboarding, and general support around the office. I genuinely enjoy working with systems, solving problems, and learning how different parts of technology fit together. I’m excited to move into a full‑time IT role where I can keep building on the experience I’ve gained through my work, classes, and personal projects.
Why I Built This
This project started as a simple VPN server for a class assignment. Once I had that working, I kept exploring the next idea, and then another. It became a hobby, and I found that I enjoyed learning how each piece of the system fit together. What started as a single requirement turned into a passion project that now hosts my own portfolio.
What’s Running Right Now
  • • This website (Docker container running Nginx)
  • • Pi‑hole + Unbound for DNS & ad-blocking
  • • OpenVPN for remote access
  • • Samba file server
  • • Cloudflare Tunnel for secure external access
What I Learned
Through rebuilding this homelab multiple times, I learned how real systems behave when things break and how to troubleshoot them. Each rebuild forced me to understand the root cause of issues instead of relying on step‑by‑step guidance. I gained a deeper understanding of Linux, networking, and system design by working through failures, rebuilding from scratch, and seeing how different components interact in a live environment.
